The Sandåsa Group

A modern wood products company with great traditions

The Sandåsa Group

Today, Sandåsa Timber AB consists of the wood processing facility in Sandåsa and the sawmills in Åkers Styckebruk and in Forssjö Bruk, Katrineholm. In Karineholm, our subsidiary Forssjö Pellets AB is also located.

A large part of the processed wood products are intended for construction, house factories and other industrial customers, primarily in Sweden but also in Europe. We have a large standard range in stock and can quickly satisfy our customers with goods.

A significant proportion of the sawn timber products are exported further into the world and we see an increase in exports for the processed wood products.

Buying timber in the immediate area

We buy our timber in the immediate area, we have become specialists in cutting and refining timber. We therefore have a very consistent quality in our timber deliveries. Through short transport distances, great environmental savings are achieved while at the same time we offer forest owners a high net of their harvesting.

Knowledgeable employees who are service-minded

With many of our raw material suppliers, we have built up a close relationship through many years of cooperation. An important part of this is our purchasing organization for the raw material with the knowledgeable employees. We also offer all the other forest services that can be required on a property to our raw material suppliers.

Our history in a short brief

Sandåsa Timber AB is a modern and well-established family business from the 1920s. The business was started by Petrus Gyllengahm, which then was taken over by his sons Axel and Bertil Gyllengahm.

Since the end of the 1970s, Axel´s sons, Anders and Peter Gyllengahm currently run the company in the third generation. Peter's sons, Johan and Erik, are also strongly involved in the company.

1920

In Sandåsa, where the company's founding was, the sawmill was an important part for many years. The business was established in the 1920s and was combined with sand and gravel sales. The business was expanded with planing, impregnation and finger-jointing. Wood sales were expanded to become a lumber yard.

1970

At the end of the 1970s, Anders and Peter Gyllengahm took over the company.

1987

The sawmill in Åkers Styckebruk was acquired and all sawing ceased in Sandåsa. Instead, the investment in Sandåsa concentrated on developing the processing side with additional planing lines, painting plant and new impregnation and finger-jointing.

1990

The lumber yard was discontinued in the early 1990s, so that the business would be fully concentrated on the further processing of sawn timber.

2000

In 2000, Sandåsa Timber took over the sawmill in Ånhammar, Stjärnhov, and operated this as a sawmill for thinner dimensions until autumn 2008 when the sawmill's operations ceased completely.

2006

In 2006, a completely new saw line was established at Åkers Sawmill and the capacity for wood drying was increased.

2008

In connection with the construction of the new saw line, a new heating plant was built which was completed in 2008. Today, it supplies Strängnäs municipality with district heating.

2012

During the autumn, the sawmill and pellet factory in Forssjö Bruk were acquired. The production of pellets was taken up directly and is now runned under the

fully-owned subsidiary Forssjö Pellets AB.

2014

During the same year as the acquisition of Forssjö Bruk, the production in Sandåsa was expanded with a new planing line.

The next project was to build a new painting line with drying possibilities for exterior panels. This was put into use in the autumn of 2014.
